Install

  1. Open the downloaded file. If your browser asks, allow it to install apps.
  2. Open SMS Forwarder and tap Get started.
  3. When asked, allow SMS access.
  4. Tap Keep running in the background so Android doesn't put the app to sleep.

If "Allow" is greyed out

Android 13 and newer blocks SMS access for apps installed outside an app store until you allow it once:

  1. Open Settings, then Apps, then SMS Forwarder.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu in the top corner and choose Allow restricted settings. Confirm with your PIN or fingerprint.
  3. Go back to SMS Forwarder and tap Allow SMS access again.

Don't see the ⋮ menu? Try to allow SMS access in the app first. Android only shows the option after it has blocked a request once.

Keep it forwarding

Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, OPPO, vivo and OnePlus phones close background apps aggressively. In the phone's settings, find SMS Forwarder and turn on autostart, and set battery use to No restrictions. On Xiaomi you can also lock the app in the recent apps screen.
